My photographs stand as a journal of
my life, each one an entry capturing my feelings of that particular
place or time.
This visual journal holds nearly nine years worth
of entries. Youthful wandering has taken me through a variety of
subject matter. In a few cases, I focused on a specific subject
in greater detail, a kind of chapter is then created.
The glue
that brings all the work together is the aesthetic aspects of the
home made 7"x17" view camera and the hand coated platinum/palladium
printing process. The unique optical traits of using such a large
format allow me to isolate the subject yet still show the entire
scene. The hand coated print has its own nostalgic qualities, with
its warm color and brush marks like sloppy hand writing. Every
part of the photograph- from the camera, the imagery, to the final
print, work together to create a truely personal expression.
Writing
in an actual journal would be so much easier...
