My history with the platinum/palladium printing process-
Since 1993 I have been working with the platinum/palladium process. In 1994 I started shooting personally with a 7”x17” view camera in order to make 7”x17” platinum/palladium direct contact prints. In 1996 I began pt/pd printing for clients with digital negatives using Dan Burkholder’s method.
The PROCESS-
By combining the precision of the digital darkroom with the most permanent and beautiful handmade printing processes, photographic prints of extraordinary quality are now possible.
How it works-
1-I scan your original film negative and adjust the image to your needs.
2-I output a digital negative from the scan or your digital camera file (up to 27”x37” for printing on 30”x40” paper)
3-I make a platinum/palladium print on heavyweight 100% rag paper, processed to archival standards.
the RESULTS-
A perfect platinum/palladium print adjusted exactly to your needs.
the REASONS-
A long beautiful tonal scale, warm black print color, as well as a velvety surface characteristic, are the aesthetic reasons for a platinum/palladium print. Other reasons for using a platinum/palladium print is that it will last as long as the paper it is printed on, far out lasting silver based printing processes. Also that the print is made by hand and is the result of chemical reactions to light and not something that came out of a machine. These are just a few reasons these prints far better value in the art world.
The FIRST PRINT includes-The scanning of the negative in any format. Image preparation for the digital negative (includes basic contrast adjustment and localized dodging and burning, further image manipulation available at an extra charge). A digital negative. The final hand-coated print.
